Dr. Charles Kimball, Presidential Professor and Director of Religious Studies at the University of Oklahoma, will speak during the church school hour, 9:30-10:30, in Memorial Presbyterian Church’s Fellowship Hall. His topic will be Christianity and Islam in a Post 9/11 World.
Dr. Kimball is an ordained Baptist minister, and he received his Th.D. from Harvard University in comparative religion, with a specialization in Islamic studies. He is also a graduate of Oklahoma State University, and received a M.Div. degree from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He is published in a number of publications, including The Christian Century, and he has written five books, including When Religion Becomes Evil, which in 2008 was named one of the top 15 books on religion. Since the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, he has been interviewed by more than 700 TV and radio stations, as well as major news outlets. Dr. and Mrs. Kimball are associated with First Presbyterian Church in Norman, and they have two adult children.
